    為什麼我們為何需要睡午覺

    一項新的研究顯示,西班牙人在吃飽午飯後午睡的習慣是對的。曼徹斯特大學的研究人員首次發現讓我們時刻保持警覺的腦細胞或神經元,在飯後如何被關閉。
     
    這項研究的結果發表於本周的Neuron中。這些發現對治療肥胖、飲食疾病以及瞭解人累的意識具有重大的意義。
     
    人類和動物在飯後就會昏昏欲睡,但是一直不清楚引起這種機制的大腦信號。在這項新研究中,研究人員確定出葡萄糖如何使腦細胞停止製造使我們清醒的信號。
     
    研究作者Burdakov博士精確地揭示了葡萄糖如何抑制那些製造orexins的神經元。Orexin是一些對於人類意識狀態的正常調節非常重要的微小蛋白質。細胞必須一直反應不斷變化的能量狀態,而這種能量狀態又與清醒、尋找食物、激素釋放和代謝率的變化有關。
     
    Orexin神經元功能若發生障礙,將會導致嗜眠發作。患有這種病症的人無法控制睡眠而且會變得肥胖。也有證據顯示,orexin神經元與學習和成癮等過程有關。
     
    研究人員在製造orexin的細胞膜上找到了一個孔,可以抑制葡萄糖的作用。這種新發現的機制可以靈敏地檢測葡萄糖含量的細微變化。這個機制可以解釋飯後想睡覺的生理現象。
